Merit-Based Scholarships

Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Scholarships

The CAPE Scholarship is awarded to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who have achieved academic excellence at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Each year the Ministry of Education awards 100 Scholarships in the following ten cognate groups:
Business; Environmental Science; Languages; Mathematics; Modern Studies/Humanities; Natural Science; Technical Studies; Technological Studies, General Studies and Visual and Performing Arts.

These scholarships are merit-based scholarships and are awarded to motivate students to greater academic achievement as well as promote the study of specific subject areas. As the recipient of a scholarship, you are eligible to receive payments to meet the cost of your tuition and compulsory fees, personal maintenance and books among others.

There are three (3) categories of Advanced Level Scholars:

National Bursary Awards

On November 12, 2020 Cabinet approved the establishment of a National Bursary Programme, with the offer of 500 National Bursaries to be awarded annually.

The introduction of the National Bursary Programme provides a means for ensuring that the most vulnerable groups, most talented students, and most targeted areas for national development are supported.

It allows for more strategic rationalization of funding mechanisms available under the Ministry of Education in particular:

  • It ensures that the well performing and talented students have access to higher education regardless of socio-economic background, without incurring debts; and
  • It supports strategic national development by aligning bursary grants to programme areas that have been identified as meeting national priority.
